Tobacco Compliance

Putting a Dent in the Sale of Tobacco Products to Minors!

The Troy Police Department was awarded a grant form the Texas State Comptroller's Office to assist with stopping minors from buying tobacco products. The Troy Police Department actively pursued this initiative through education, compliance and enforcement.

As a result, all of the tobacco retailers within our jurisdiction received education about the laws associated with selling tobacco products to minors. Additionally, the department provided compliance inspections and materials to assist with obtaining compliance. Furthermore, the department conducted several sting operations to ensure retailers were complying with state law.

Although all of our retailers were adversely affected by the initial sting operations, they were successful with future enforcement efforts. The Troy Police Department would like to thank the retailers for their willingness to comply with state law. Working together on issues like this will enhance the quality of life for our youth and our community.
